Today is a very sad day for all us motor sports enthusiasts. Today at the Sepang Moto GP (Malaysia) 2011, the last round of 2011 Moto GP we witnessed a horrific accident of Marco Simoncelli, #58 involving two other riders – #46, Valentino Rossi & #5, Colin Edwards leading to the death of the Italian rider.

In an attempt to get up from a high-slide, in the second lap of the race, Simoncelli unknowingly came in front of the racing line the fellow riders and was hit by them from their motorcycles leading to Head, Neck and spinal injuries.

The race was stopped immediately with the red flag and Simoncelli was transported by ambulance to the circuit medical centre where the medical staff worked to resuscitate him.

Despite their efforts, Marco sadly succumbed to his injuries at 4:56pm local time.

We are devastated with his sad demise.

As we said earlier in our blog post on Yamaha R15 launch in India, Yamaha has now upgraded and launched it’s champion product R15 in India.

R15 has always been an iconic bike in India as it brought the culture of power biking in India. Yamaha R15 had a lot of ‘first time in India‘ features which were a boon.

Soon after the launch there were many other power bikes launched in India including Honda CBR 250. Yamaha sensed the craze and now launched an upgraded version of R15 to appeal the sub 1.1 Lakh buyers.

Now that the bike is in the market and also now is visually appealing as well, would you like to buy this bike? Or you would wait for KTM 200. You right now already have the option of CBR 250 which comes in abs and non abs version.

After months of testing the bike on Noida expressway, now finally Yamaha talks about the new R15 2.0.

The news is confirmed via an official invite which calls the new R15 ‘the Yamaha R15 version 2.0.’ The invite, signed by company’s India MD and CEO Hiroyuki Suzuki confirms the launch of the bike at 4:00 pm at Le Meridian in New Delhi.

There are rumors that Yamaha R15?s parts being localized to a large extent. If this is indeed true, expect the new Yamaha R15 2.0 to be priced very competitively as Yamaha India could pass on the cost advantage to the customer. Whatever may be the case, we’ll find out on September 6th, 2011, when the new Yamaha R15 2.0 will finally be showcased to the Indian motorcycling populace, in all its racy glory.

The Big question is that is there any Engine upgrade in the bike with the given accessory and broader tyres?

Mercedes sales might have been dipped for the last 3 yrs but they will be launching the new face lifted SLK 350 for India.

As one of the first modern retractable hardtop convertibles, the SLK followed the 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT Spyder and preceded other retractable hardtops such as the Peugeot 206cc, Lexus SC, Pontiac G6 and the Chrysler Sebring. The SLK Vario-roof was first shown on the SLK II concept car at the 1994 Paris Motor Show. The car went on sale two years later in Europe, and in 1997 in the US. The SLK is built in Bremen, Germany.

The car is expected to be launched this month.The Ex showroom price Delhi: Rs. 61,99,000 (estimated). The car will be having a 3.5 V6, 310 hp, 7G tronic, CGI direct fuel injection, it will be loaded with goodies like magic sky control sunroof as standard and retractable hard top.

That isn’t much to go off of, but Autoblog.nl speculates the vehicle is a high-performance tester that will be able to hit 250 mph (402 km/h). We’re going to err on the side of caution and chalk it up as an interesting abnormality, for the time being, but there’s little doubt Lamborghini will eventually introduce a range-topping variant.

As we have previously reported, the standard LP700-4 Aventador has a 6.5-liter V12 engine with 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed transmission which enables the 1575 kg (3,472 lb) supercar to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). Keep your fingers crossed.

As other car manufacturers are busy with launching bigger cars with diesel engines, Fiat seems to be testing a small car. Rumors say that this could be Fiat Palio or Fiat Panda.

Fiat even after coming back with Tata in India is struggling to find an image in the country. Linea and Punto did sell a good numbers initially then the competition went very tight with the likes of Ford, Hyundai, and GM giving the customers a good package.

Fiat’s small car for India will have a 1-liter petrol engine and the existing Multi-jet engine could be used in the original or modified form. What Chevrolet has done with Beat. The car would be around 3lakhs.
Fiat has the advantage of Italian styling, the diesel technology widely acknowledged as world class, and many innovative features. The ingredients are there but they have to put it in the right way.

Ford Fiesta turning 35 and coincidentally reaching the 15 Million units sales milestone at the same time. Over the years, precisely from 1976 to 2011 and continuing, the Fiesta has set the Ford flag flying high with unprecedented popularity across the world, especially in Europe.

Ford came to Indian market with Fiesta as early as 1999. The Ford Ikon, which became wildly popular in India as ‘The Josh Machine’ and which was Ford’s first real success in India, was based on the Mk IV Fiesta. In fact, the front end was exactly similar to the Fiesta hatchback with only a boot added to increase its practicality and appeal in the Indian market. Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. (YME) has decided to withdraw their official Yamaha World Superbike Team at the end of the current season from the FIM Superbike World Championship.

This announcement follows a full strategic review of the Marketing Operations within Europe including all Motorsport activities and takes into account the continuing severe and rapidly changing Powered Two Wheeler market conditions throughout the region.

Due to this decision more resource and focus will now be used for direct “Customer“ activities to ultimately add more value to Yamaha ownership and increased Customer Satisfaction.

YME would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the total commitment, support, and passion shown by the extremely professional and dedicated riders and team members both past and present throughout the many years of participation in the FIM Superbike World Championship. YME would also like to thank all the highly valued business partners and suppliers who have in-turn supported the team and in addition would like to thank Infront Motorsports, the FIM Superbike World Championship promoters. YME has chosen this timing of announcement to ensure that all existing obligations are correctly met, and to not limit any opportunities or future planning for all personnel involved.

Riders Marco Melandri and Eugene Laverty are currently respectively 3rd and 4th in the overall 2011 FIM Superbike World Championship standings for riders with 4 rounds to go. YME and the team will continue to give its maximum efforts until the end of the existing season to try and regain the World Superbike title which Yamaha also won in 2009.

Yamaha will continue the availability of road racing kit parts, known as YEC Racing kit parts, for its R1 and R6 production models for private teams entering at all racing levels.

With two rounds down and four to go, the Madras Motor Race Track will host the third round of the 2011 Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), one of Asia’s most prestigious events for two-wheeler racing, which will kick off at the Sriperumbudur track from August 4 – 7, 2011.

This is the third consecutive year that Chennai will be hosting the event. Event promoter, Ron Hogg commented, “We are offering spectators free admission for this outstanding race with the hope of further raising the interest for two- wheeler racing in India.”

The Championship will see races in the Underbone 115cc and the Super Sports 600cc categories.  The Chennai event is the only international two-wheeler racing event in India at present, with Krishnan Rajini of Moto-Rev India being the country’s sole representative in the Championship, competing in the SuperSports 600cc category. Meanwhile, in the Underbone 115cc category, there is also local participation with the TVS Racing Team joining with a wildcard local rider and an import rider, from Malaysia for the race.  The 5th and 6th of August will see practice and qualifying sessions across categories, while the final races are scheduled for Sunday, August 7th from 10 am until 5 pm.
